Install the engine

This page walks you through installing ViveEngine on your system.

Choose your platform: Windows | macOS


Windows

Prerequisites

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • Administrator account
  • At least 100 MB free disk space

Installation steps

1. Download the installer

Get the latest ViveEngine installer from the Downloads page:

ViveEngine-Shared-<version>-windows.exe

Note

"Shared" edition can be used by multiple apps. If you have a custom build, use that instead. See Distribution methods.

2. Run the installer

Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator, then follow the prompts.

Why admin rights?

ViveEngine installs system-level audio drivers and background services, which require administrator privileges.

3. Reboot

Reboot your system to complete the installation. Driver registration requires this to take effect.

What was installed

Here's what the installer puts on your system:

Location Description
C:\Program Files\ViveEngine (Shared)\ Engine binaries and libraries
C:\ProgramData\ViveSound\ Runtime data
Registry keys Driver registration, service configuration

Uninstalling

1. Run the uninstaller

Choose one of the following:

1.a Go to SettingsAppsInstalled apps, search for ViveEngine, and click Uninstall.

Alternatively:

1.b Open C:\Program Files\ViveEngine\ in Explorer, right-click Uninstall.exe and select Run as administrator, then follow the prompts.

2. Reboot

Reboot your system to fully remove the driver from the OS.


macOS

Prerequisites

  • macOS 14.4 Sonoma or later
  • Administrator account
  • At least 100 MB free disk space

Installation steps

1. Download the installer

Get the latest ViveEngine installer from the Downloads page:

ViveEngine-Shared-<version>-macos.sh

Note

"Shared" edition can be used by multiple apps. If you have a custom build, use that instead. See Distribution methods.

2. Run the installer

Open Terminal and run:

sudo ./ViveEngine-Shared-<version>-macos.sh

Why sudo?

ViveEngine installs system-level audio drivers and background services, which require superuser privileges.

3. Reboot

Reboot your system to complete the installation. A reboot is required for the driver to fully load.

What was installed

Here's what the installer puts on your system:

Uninstalling

1. Run the uninstaller

Open Terminal and run:

sudo "/Library/Application Support/ViveEngine/Uninstall.sh"

2. Reboot

Reboot your system to fully remove the driver from the OS.
